Services

  • Much of our work is done one-on-one. We help people see and understand patterns that have led to feeling exhausted, frustrated and overloaded. We then give tools that help them move toward fulfillment and wholeness.

  • Have you ever felt what you would describe as a low-hum rattling just beneath the surface of your life, only to breach at the worst possible time?

Does that low-hum, or does stress in your life, leave you responding in ways that you later regret?

That "low hum" is anxiety. We know anxiety is a 21st Century buzz-word for some, but anxiety is present in each one of us. Anxiety is an intense, emotional response to a threat (actual or perceived) that often just happens to us. Our responses leave us feeling out of control, remorse, and shame.

Brimstone Coach Group exists to help people overcome these feelings and to manage yourself in the anxious situations your find yourself in, and to understand that other people are simply reacting and responding anxiously, too.

  • We believe that words have power and we often create as we speak. We made proactive promises in our childhood that led ways of behaving that have carried on into adulthood. We believe people have the capacity to those protective promises with purposeful ones.

Because most people are working multiple jobs - the one they are supposed to be doing, while also hiding or protecting themselves at all costs - we have created this workshop and will tailor it to your needs.

  • We also work with groups of people. We help groups see and understand patterns that have led to feeling exhausted, frustrated and overloaded. We then give tools that help them move toward fulfillment and wholeness.

  • We work intentionally with individuals and teams who find themselves embroiled in conflict. We provide mediation and an outside perspective that enables conflicts to be resolved in redeeming ways, helping people experience fulfillment and wholeness.

  • We facilitate and coach an ongoing process of spiritual formation known as Faithwalking. In this process, people become aware of wounds of their past and journey toward wholeness through six 10-week modules. Learn more about Faithwalking here.

I was challenged and heard by Kurt! I felt comfortable sharing and was asked thought provoking questions.

Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. (Romans 12:2)

The Brimstone Coaching Group Approach

Encounter + Reflection = Transformation

Encounter

Every one of us has dozens of encounters each day that have an impact on our lives. Human beings respond to these events in a number of predictable ways. We help you give thought to these encounters.

Reflection

As you identify encounters that impact you, we provide resources and tools that help you reflect on those encounters. Most of us do not take the time to reflect on things happening around us or in us.

Transformation

We believe the best way to experience transformation is by reflecting on the encounters one has. We help you make sense of these experiences so you may show up in the world the way you want to.

Information

Information is our friend. As you learn more about the experiences that have shaped you, tools and resources are helpful in the transformational journey.

Practice

With information and resources in your hip pocket, you will be provided with homework to engage between coaching calls.

Reflection

As you share your experience with the homework, we will reflect together on successes and opportunities for continued growth to determine next faithful steps .

Helping exhausted, frustrated, and overloaded leaders experience contentment, fulfillment, and wholeness where they live, work, & play.

How we started

Frederick Buechner was right when he said, “The place God calls you to is the place where your deep gladness and the world’s deep hunger meets.”

We believe that wholeness and transformation are possible for everyone because we’ve experienced it ourselves. We have been blessed by coaches who asked thoughtful, well-timed, probing questions and patiently journeyed with us as we pursued our truest selves.

Kurt and Chris first met translating Greek sentences in the fall of 2015. Since then, much has happened, including being transformed during a global pandemic.

The two each had visions of creating a coaching practice of their own but coming out of a mini-sabbatical in the winter of 2023, Kurt felt a call to do more of the things he loved more of the time. As he thought about that idea, Kurt also knew he’d love to embark on creating a coaching practice with Chris.

Thus, Brimstone Coaching Group was born. Having coached and counseled one another over the years, and having coached dozens of others through our professional relationships, it became clear this is the time to meet the world’s deep hunger more intentionally.

We are thrilled to journey together to help you move from feeling exhausted, frustrated, and overloaded to experiencing fulfillment and wholeness in the places you live, work, and play.

Kurt & Chris

“I first met Chris my first year into my first call as a new pastor, and I can honestly say I would have been one of the many pastors that didn’t make it past the first few years of ministry if it weren’t for Chris. Chris is very knowledgeable when it comes to both coaching and counseling within the ministry context, but what I am most grateful for is the heart with which he leans in to meet you where you are and help you grow in the love of God. With Chris as your coach, you will be challenged to learn and grow by someone who you will never doubt is willing to be right there with you through it.” - Matt

    Meet Kurt

I began my working career in the manufacturing world. I spent time working for a large manufacturing company in various roles over 10 years, with the majority of that time being spent in Human Resources and Production Supervision. Then…I was called out of that into seminary, and subsequently, full-time vocational ministry. Over the last 6 years, I’ve served and led churches in and through things like a new campus launch, congregational culture change, and helping leaders establish a clear sense of “who we are together.” But what’s been true, all the way back to the beginning of my career is this nagging feeling that I’m an imposter, and that I’m mere minutes from being found out. This feeling would keep me stuck, and fearful, NOT thriving! Thankfully, a number of coaches have helped me to do my own work to identify the origins of that voice that tells me lies, and have helped me establish a better story, and a better set of tools to help quiet the voice that says “you’re an imposter.” It’s this work in my own life that fuels the passion I feel in helping others do their own work. I believe we can all do the hard work to identify why we continue to stay stuck in lies like “you’re an imposter.” I cannot wait to enter into that work with you!

    Co-Founder & Christian Coach

    Meet Chris

I have always been a leader, though I wouldn’t necessarily say I was always a person worth following. The first three or four decades of my life were spent striving for success. I had some athletic success as a high school and college kid, and I became an award-winning journalist and successful newspaper publisher. All the striving was a way of coping - a way of hiding so people wouldn’t think or find out that I was worthless. A number of years ago I made the transition from printing the news to telling the Good News…but here’s the thing: in both careers I often found myself stuck and stopped by patterns of behavior that I didn’t fully understand, nor control. Thankfully, multiple coaches over the past 10-15 years have helped me engage my own inner work. I have a growing understanding of Family Systems theory and Internal Family Systems, using tools and resources that help people stop doing things that have hampered their growth for so long so they can live whole lives. These tools have also been helpful in conflict resolution work with co-workers and leadership teams. People I coach routinely tell me they now hear my voice in their head, coaching themselves to stop doing detrimental things and take control of their lives.

FAQs

“Chris allows participants to share and gives space for processing in the moment. He doesn't rush you for answers and gives space for the answer ‘I don't know.'“ -Amber

Q. What does coaching consist of?

A. We work with clients to help them identify areas in their life that need attention. Clients are then provided with vital information and offered tools to put into practice between coaching calls. They then try on new ways of being and return to the next call to reflect on their learning. This information-practice-reflection cycle continues as our coaches help clients along their transformational journey.

Q. How does coaching work?

A. The secret sauce of coaching is the well-timed, thoughtful question. Our coaches listen intently and reflect back what we hear. We believe that the answer to the fully-alive life is in you, there just happens to be something in the way of you seeing it. That said, a well-timed, thoughtful question is like moving the hand from in front of your face so you can see what was there all along.

Q. Why do I need a coach?

A. Here’s the thing, none of us are living the perfect life. Every single person has something in their life that would grow as a result of receiving some coaching. Some of us live with regrets. Others of us are angry, ashamed, and are not living the life we want to live. Sometimes, clients aren’t as efficient as they’d like to be at work, and other times employers find their employees aren’t efficient as they’d like them to be, either. Everyone needs a coach. Marriages improve, friendships improve, employer/employee relationships improve, and the world becomes more whole when we are our best selves.
