A Non-profit Leader’s Journey to Authentic Leadership

Before partnering with Brimstone Coaching Group, this non-profit Executive Director was feeling overwhelmed. She knew she needed to become a better leader—someone who could understand the unique strengths and challenges of her team, build a more cohesive work environment, and manage her own role without feeling constantly drained. Despite reading countless leadership books, she realized that what she truly needed was personalized, one-on-one coaching to help her process and apply what she was learning.

Through her coaching journey with Kurt Bush, Co-Founder of Brimstone Coaching Group, she uncovered how past experiences shaped her leadership style. By recognizing the patterns that were holding her back, she began rewriting her narrative and focusing on her strengths rather than dwelling on her weaknesses. “I’ve learned to set good boundaries so that I deal with the things within my control and let go of the things I can’t control,” she shared.

This shift allowed her to become more present and effective—not only in her leadership role but also as a wife and mother. She developed healthier communication skills, learning to pause and process feedback instead of reacting defensively. "I think I’ve mellowed in a way—I can handle challenges without letting them negatively impact other parts of my life," she reflected.

Her transformation didn’t stop with her personal growth. By embracing her leadership role with authenticity and confidence, she cultivated a stronger, more aligned team. Brimstone’s coaching process empowered her to lead with clarity and purpose, resulting in a more effective ministry and a more fulfilling life.

Her advice to others considering coaching with Brimstone?
"If your goal is to lead in a way that honors God, yourself, and others—whether in ministry or business—it’s worth the work to delve deeper into who you are and who God has created you to be."

Bring Your Whole Self to Work: The Key to Thriving Leadership

In today's fast-paced corporate world, many leaders feel the pressure to "have it all together." But what if the key to leading with confidence and inspiring your team isn’t about perfection—but authenticity?

The Hidden Cost of Hiding

Many professionals unknowingly take on a second job—the job of concealing their fears, mistakes, and insecurities. This constant effort to maintain a polished image can quietly drain energy, stifle creativity, and hinder genuine connections with colleagues. Over time, this hidden struggle leads to burnout and prevents leaders from fully engaging with their teams.

The path to overcoming this isn’t about striving for perfection—it’s about embracing authenticity. Bringing your whole self to work fosters stronger relationships, builds trust, and promotes a thriving organizational culture.

When leaders lead authentically, they empower their teams to do the same. Emotional intelligence—the ability to understand and manage emotions—is a cornerstone of this kind of leadership, enabling leaders to navigate challenges with clarity and empathy.

Try these practical steps towards authentic leadership:

  1. Start Small, Reflect Often
Take one small step beyond your comfort zone. Reflect on the outcome and how it impacts your team dynamics.

  2. Lead with Emotional Intelligence
Acknowledge your feelings without letting them control your actions. Practice self-awareness and empathy in challenging conversations.

  3. Create a Culture of Trust
Foster an environment where team members feel safe sharing ideas and challenges. Trust leads to innovation and stronger collaboration.

  4. Connect Your Work to Purpose
Help your team see how their roles contribute to the bigger picture. Purpose-driven teams are more engaged and motivated.

Why This Matters

When leaders show up authentically, they empower their teams to do the same. This shift reduces burnout, improves communication, and leads to higher performance. It’s about small, consistent steps toward growth—not overnight change.

From Barriers to Breakthroughs: Unlock Your Team’s Full Potential

Sometimes the biggest obstacles to growth are the ones we don’t even realize are there. In our Promises Workshop, participants are invited to pause and reflect on the hidden beliefs and internal narratives that quietly shape their decisions, relationships, and leadership. These aren’t just passing thoughts—they’re deeply rooted Protective Promises formed in childhood to help us feel safe or in control. While once useful, these promises can hold us back in adulthood, limiting our leadership and personal growth.

One participant experienced this firsthand, realizing how these long-held promises were quietly influencing their leadership:

"I naturally default to my protective promises, but they don’t actually protect me. I think they do, but they’ve become less meaningful for who I am today."

The Promises Workshop guides participants through engaging conversations and practical reflection, helping them recognize these outdated beliefs and intentionally replace them with Purposeful and Preferred Promises—commitments that align with their authentic selves and support meaningful leadership.

This intentional shift isn’t just theoretical; it leads to real change. Participants gain tools to navigate difficult moments and break free from reactive behaviors. As one attendee shared:

"The back-and-forth conversation made it super comfortable—even when addressing uncomfortable issues."

The impact was immediate and deeply personal. During a particularly stressful season, this participant found themselves better equipped to manage anxiety and stay grounded:

"It was perfect timing to have this seminar leading up to the chaos of the election. It helped me recognize how much I don’t know and stay grounded."

Why the Promises Workshop Matters

At Brimstone Coaching Group, we believe words matter—and so do the promises we make to ourselves. Our Promises Workshop helps teams and leaders uncover the silent promises driving their behaviors and equips them with tools to rewrite those promises in a way that supports growth, collaboration, and resilience.

By replacing Protective Promises with Purposeful and Preferred Promises, individuals and teams experience:

  • Greater self-awareness and emotional resilience

  • Stronger, more authentic connections with colleagues

  • Better decision-making and leadership grounded in confidence, not fear

  • A more cohesive and collaborative work environment
